Jojoba Oil (Not just a moisturizer)

Moisturizer – Because jojoba oil closely resembles human sebum, our skin accepts it very well without threat of breakouts or reactions. If you have oily or combination skin and are afraid of putting any oil on your face, rest easy. Jojoba oil actually helps to balance skin’s sebum, so it moisturizes dry skins and eases the oil production in oily skin. Apply jojoba oil by mixing two drops of it in your moisturizer, or use it sparingly on its own. 

Make-up remover – Jojoba oil is not an eye irritant, nor allergenic, so you can use it to remove eye makeup. Soak a cotton pad or ball, and swipe over your eye shadow, liner, and mascara. Not only will your eye makeup be gently and completely removed, you’ll find your lashes lush and conditioned, too.

Cleansing Oil – Another soaked cotton ball will easily dissolve your blush, foundation, and lipstick. To remove oil completely, use a damp tissue or washcloth.

Lip balm – Put a few drops of jojoba oil on your finger and apply to your lips. Lots of lip balms used today tend to clog the pores with comedogenic ingredients, so jojoba oil is a good alternative.

Hair conditioner – Mix a few drops of jojoba oil into your current hair conditioner or use it on its own. You can also add it to damp hair before it dries. You can massage a few drops onto dry hair to promote shine. Jojoba oil moisturizes the scalp, helping to prevent dandruff. The jojoba oil also strengthens the hair and heals split ends.

Shave Preparation – Put a generous amount of jojoba oil on your beard area beneath the shaving cream or use it on its own. The jojoba oil will help prevent razor burn and leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft.

Massage Oil – A little jojoba oil goes a long way in massage. It also will prevent breakouts that other massage oils can cause. It softens the skin, helps to clear stretch marks, and will help those suffering from eczema or psoriasis.

Cuticle Oil – A small amount of jojoba oil, rubbed into the cuticles on a regular basis helps keep them soft and strengthened.

 

 

How you can use jojoba oil: As a leave-in conditioner, place a small amount in your hair, rub your hands together and wipe the oil though your hair. You can either leave it in or wash it out with a mild shampoo. You can also add 2 tbsp. of jojoba oil into the bottle of your favorite shampoo.

If your morning skin care habits are strictly wash-and-go, you need to step up to a daily regimen that will help fight off free radicals, protect your skin from the sun’s rays, bring moisture to dehydrated skin, and more. While the sun is shining, your skin will be glowing –thanks to these daytime skin care tips from Marianna Blyumin, MD, a cosmetic dermatologist in Hollywood, Fla.

Get Moving. Exercise isn’t just for your muscles, so get off the couch and get moving.”Exercise lowers stress hormones, the physiological stress indicators that cause damage to all of our body — including our skin,” says Blyumin. Cardiovascular exercise works best for keeping stress hormones at bay, so try 30 to 45 minutes per day of walking, biking, swimming, or even martial arts.

Exfoliate. Give your skin a wake-up call in the shower.”Exfoliating your body speeds up skin cell turnover and therefore gets rid of damaged superficial skin and lets fresher skin shine through,” says Blyumin.

How often you should exfoliate and how harsh a scrub you should use depends on your skin type: If you’re desert-dry, look for a mild moisturizing scrub and exfoliate monthly. Normal skin can handle weekly exfoliation with a body cleanser containing fine beads. Oily skin? Scrub three times a week with any body cleanser containing exfoliating beads or a loofah, and afterward be sure to slather on a barrier repair moisturizer; these creams contain ingredients such as ceramide, a lipid that not only prevents water loss but helps rebuild the skin.

Lighten Up. Leave the heavy face creams for nighttime, and instead go for a light moisturizer; lightweight products don’t leave your skin feeling greasy during the day. Blyumin recommends a moisturizer with antioxidants such as green tea, soy, coenzyme Q10, or vitamins A, C, and E, which counteract free radicals that age your skin and can contribute to skin cancer.

Hydrate. You’re already hydrating your skin from the outside, but you need to quench your skin’s thirst from the inside, too.”When we’re dehydrated, our skin begins to look dull and dry,” says Blyumin.”So it’s important to hydrate the skin from the inside by drinking plenty of water.”

Cover up. Help prevent skin cancer and premature aging with an SPF of at least 30. Choose a physical sunblock (with ingredients like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide) rather than a chemical sunblock (with ingredients like avobenzone) because it’s less likely to irritate your skin. Even better, most physical sunblocks protect against both UVA and UVB rays.

Lip service. When you protect your face from the sun, don’t leave out your pout.”Skin cancers on the lips are more dangerous than other skin cancers because they’re more likely to spread to the inside of our body,” says Marianna Blyumin, MD. So select a lip balm with at least a 30 SPF.

Avocado and Its Benefits

Avocado is a very recent discovery in skin treatment and remedies, and so far it has had outstanding results. Avocado oil is made from the pulp of the avocado fruit. It is rich and heavy but penetrates the skin for a nutritive and therapeutic experience. Avocado oil contains more than 20% essential unsaturated fatty acids as well as vitamins A, C, D and E, proteins, beta-carotene, lecithin, fatty acids and the “youth mineral” potassium. Avocado oil is high in unsaponifiables (sterolins), which are famous for being beneficial in reducing age spots, healing scars and moisturizing the upper layers of the skin.

Unsaponifiables are a group of compounds called plant sterolins. Sterolins soften the skin, having an amazing moisturizing effect on the upper layer of the skin and reducing scars. The sterolins in avocado oil have been found to diminish age spots. Oils with the highest unsaponifiables are shea butter, avocado oil, sesame oil, soybean and olive oil.

In a 1991 study at the Department of Food Engineering and Biotechnology, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology found that skin treatment with avocado oil significantly increases water soluble collagen content in the dermis, which effects the aging of the skin. Avocado is used in many folk medicines as an aphrodisiac. Avocado oil is an emollient and very stable. According to many dermatologists avocado does help make the skin feel softer and smoother, reduce roughness, cracking and irritation. Avocado also removes the fine wrinkles of aging and help protect the skin from ultraviolet rays.

How to make an “Avocado Face Mask”

Things You’ll Need:

1/2 medium ripe avocado,  1 tbsp. all natural honey,  1 tbsp. all natural yogurt,  1 cucumber

Mash the avocado with a fork until creamy. Avocados naturally contain a deep penetrating vegetable oil that is perfect  for dry skin. Maybe the most important element of avocado is that it is a good source of potassium, which is known as the youth mineral, so whether you are eating avocados or making a face mask, they can help your skin maintain its healthy and beautiful glow.

Add 1 tbsp. of all natural honey to the avocado mash. Honey has a germ killing ability and helps to reduce swelling and inflammation making your skin tight and reduces wrinkles.

Add 1 tbsp natural yogurt. Yogurt is a natural and gentle cleanser and is used in many skin care products. Yogurt also helps to tighten the skin.

Wash your face gently with warm water and pat dry. Apply a thin layer of the avocado face mask to your face and neck and allow to set for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water a few times to remove all residue.

Added Benefit: Place 2 slices of cucumbers over your eyes. Cucumber acts as a natural astringent and is a perfect addition to the avocado mask. It also hydrates the eyes and helps to reduce circles underneath the eyes.
